Honestly you handled beans too much. it hurt the delicate rooting’s hair. i believe it damaged the hairs, lost the vigor to grow. For best thing is to let bean stay in the soil, it will come up in bean’s time or not, who knows.

I know everyone have a different way with germinate beans. For myself , i always have 100% rate of germination.

just soak the beans with tap water for overnight then plant direct into soilless medium, no dome needed. The beans will sprout range from 1 to 10 days. keep surface moist, not dry out and if you see the surface soil is about to dry out , just use spray to mist on it till its moist.

So i bought a seed from attitude which was cheesy dick and i got a critical 47 freebie…the cheesy dick had a tap root in 1 day today is day 3 for the…

Hi everyone, i have a second grow thread(indoor) going on now and i asked this question but no one replied so i was hoping i can get some answers here.

I placed my seeds in between moist paper towels and placed it in a container with 3 small holes at the top. Placed the container in my closet and check to see if it sprouts daily.

But the thing is it’s been 7 days and my seeds still hasn’t popped. Should i put them in water ?

Anyway they were bought like 3 months ago and they were kept in the container they came with. Do you think they somehow ‘expired’?

Not sure am getting you well but:

1. You soak seeds for 24 hours (some go 36), till seeds fell @ th ebottom of your cup or whatever you soak your seeds in
2. Moist Paper towel for few days till tap root tail is no longer than 1 inch
or you put them straight in the soil (after soaking in water) and wait usually 3-4 days before seeing them up ( I prefer this way)

I do 1. (24 h) then straight in soil and wait 3-4 days

Hope it help, best of luck!

A few things evolved since then, storage in a refrigerator for starters. Distilled water worked best, also i adopted delicate paper so the microscopic vegetal fibers wouldn’t suffer too much damage when the time came for transfer to a growing medium: it’s quite preferable just to break paper instead.

Finally, judging from its tap-root length i’d say i should have performed this transfer 1 day earlier! By chance it picked up some healthier green tones in a matter of hours.

It’s day 8 since attempting to germinate. One of them cracked but the tail root doesn’t grow out (Just able to see the seed cracked and got a black thing hanging out but doesn’t expand) and another one which i transferred from paper towel method to the glass water but still hasn’t cracked at all.

Do i give up hope now ? Will they even break through and have the tap roots coming out ?

I was wondering is there any good seed storage thread here ? As i said they are in their original container ever since i received them and i have been keeping them for 3 months in one of my long sleeves pocket.

Help and advices will be good. Thanks

Don’t transfer the seeds back to the cup of water, you will suffocate the seeds as water has minimal oxygen levels that are too low to fully germinate seeds in. It’s suggested by many people to keep the seed in the cup of water until you see a crack, once the seed is “cracked” you transfer to the paper medium, once the seed grows out a tap root (0.5′ – 1′) its transferred to its growing medium.

Regarding proper storage of seeds. I personally (not everyone does this) do the following:
1. If I’m storing them for less than 12 months (1 year) they’ll be stored in a air-sealed plastic container with rice inside in the fridge. The rice prevents moisture from getting inside, and the fridge provides a cool environment to induce dormancy in a sense. It’s always worked for me.
2. If the seed will be stored for 2-3 years. I’ll be storing it air proof tubes filled with rice. Then sunk down in a container of water (small 100g piece attached to it to tie it down) then deep-frozen in a freezer. Unfreezing these seeds is complicated and isn’t just a “take it out and unfreeze the ice” sort of procedure. Suggested not to do this.

I’d suggest you transfer your seeds immediately to your growing medium (soil etc..) as you’re drowning the seed in the cup of water.

Let us know how things go, sending some big :karma: to you.
