Quick and Easy Decarboxylation Methods

So you’ve probably heard the word “decarboxylation” being thrown around a lot lately, but what does it mean exactly?

Decarboxylation is the step before the infusion step where it is turned into a cannabis-infused butter or oil. It is highly recommended that you decarboxylate marijuana before you consume it through food. This process releases the molecule A from THC-A to become THC which makes it psychoactive. When you roll one up and smoke it, the heat from the flame causes decarboxylation. But when it comes to cooking and baking, it becomes a whole other process. Have no fear, it’s actually quite simple using the methods in this article.

For a more in-depth explanation of the decarbing process and a quick cannabutter recipe, check out my previous article:

The microwave method

Place your bud, whole or ground, in a microwave safe bowl & cover it with a turkey roasting bag. Microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds, repeat 3 times. This method holds in all the flavors and aromas for a far superior flavor and also to prevent your house from smelling like a grow-op! The microwave is also the only oven that does not “brown” so it’s almost impossible to scorch your bud.

Sous vide your weed

That’s right, you can put your ground weed in a vacuum-sealed bag. Place it in a 212°F/100°C water bath for about 1 hour and voilà! All the decarbing action with zero mess or smell. This method is very convenient since you can use a timer to set and forget it.

You can also use the sous vide method to infuse your weed with fats or alcohol.

Kill two birds and get stoned with this all-in-one method. Lay out some graham crackers, split them in half, spread some nut butter of your choice (peanut, almond, chocolate hazelnut, etc.) onto one half, then sprinkle the desired amount of ground up weed onto the nut butter. Sandwich with the second half of the graham cracker, individually wrap them in tin foil and bake them in a 325°F/160°C oven for 25-30 minutes. These will be the easiest edible you ever make!

Experimentation is everything, there are many ways to decarb but these are just some of the quick, easy and less fuss methods. Every new batch of the bud is going to be slightly different. Some may be drier or some may be more moist and sticky. Use your discretion during the process of decarboxylation, and always remember, practice makes perfect. Happy Decarbing!

Microwave Cannabutter?

Living dead girl

If your microwave has variable power, I’d use a lower setting. Honestly though, I think something like a crockpot would work better because it’s designed to maintain a certain temperature for a certain period of time, whereas the microwave doesn’t have temperature control, only power control.

I’ve never done it, I don’t do medibles. You can also use a rice cooker I’d be willing to bet, it’s what I use to make oil.

Crock pot my friend. Ive used it for every butter run and ime theres no better way.
Happy farmin;)

P.s. microwaves will Potentially destroy all the cannabanoids in the product.

Well you figure that at anything over boiling point 212f* will begin combustion. So esentially vaping your weed. Or product. Like you stated above there no control. And we have no idea what the actual microwave does on a molecular level to the thc. It may do nothing, it may morph, we dont know. All i kmow it you cannot keep a micro wave at less than 200 degrees for 8 hours. So in the end you are either over cooking or not cooking anough to properly extract. Every cannabanoid that is avalible. Via under cooking.

Dont get me wrong its worth a try but to be honest in this situation if it aint broke dont fix it.

Call me bias but it just seems that it wouldnt be sufficiant.

All is good. Your gap should be fine. Water is there to do both counter act evap and making so your butter doesnt keep so much chlorophil. These are my assumptionw. So what i do is fill it with herb top off with water about an inch above material. Then add my four sticks of butter. Be aware that you will occasionally have to top off with water due to evaporation. But this will be only once or twice. Slow and low. And you got some butter. Strain threw cheese cloth. Put in fridge it will seperate from the water and your good to go. I like to drizzle some olive oil or cocnut oil or grape seed oil in there with it. Its a better catalyst than the butter on the fats molecular levEl.

time for 4/20 poker night. Ill be back tommorow. 😉

I've got lots of trim and so I'm trying my hand at making cannabutter for the first time. I made a small test batch (because it's my first time) in a sauce…
