How many grams are in an eighth? And other cannabis conversions.

So, you’re ready to purchase your marijuana. You’ve selected your flower and the budtender asks, “How much you would like, an eighth, maybe a quarter?”

If you’re not already familiar with cannabis weights, you might be wondering “how much is an eighth? Is that too much? Can I just buy one gram? How much is a gram?”

Marijuana dispensaries and delivery services weigh cannabis products such as flower and concentrates in grams. Concentrates can be purchased in half-grams and full grams, while cannabis flower is measured in grams.

What is a gram, and how much is it exactly?

One gram, sometimes called a dime-bag or dub, is the perfect amount for cannabis consumers who prefer to smoke out of a handpiece, bong, or joint.

How much is an eighth in comparison to a gram?

When purchasing cannabis from a dispensary, an eighth is the most common form of marijuana measurement. But how much is an eighth? In the cannabis marketplace, an eighth is 3.5 grams.

The term eighth refers to the fact that it is an eighth of an ounce, but those savvy with measurements know one-eighth of an ounce is actually 3.543603875 grams. Yes, the industry rounds down.

With an eighth of weed, you’ll be able to roll two to three blunts or a handful of joints. Eighths are also known as a half-quarter or a slice.

Retail weights

A quarter of weed clocks in at 7 grams. A quarter-ounce of marijuana is enough for five to seven blunts and an arsenal of joints.

A half-ounce is 14 grams. This quantity is also referred to as a half or half “O.” With a half-ounce, you can roll between 7 and 14 blunts.

How many grams are in an ounce?

An ounce weighs in at 28 grams, equating to four quarters or eight eighths. Ounces are also referred to by other names like a zip or an “O.” The possession limits for most states and countries are cited in grams and ounces. Some states and countries place restrictions on how much weed you can possess at a given time and how much you can purchase per month.

A quarter-pound is 113.4 grams, which also equals 4 ounces. Quarter-pounds are often called QP for short.

The next step up from the quarter-pound is a half-pound. Weighing at 226.8 grams, a half-pound, or 8 ounces of cannabis is also known as half-pack and half-pounder.

1 pound is equivalent to 453 grams or 16 ounces, enough to put a dent in the bank account. A pound can cost up to $3,000 and can be called a pack or an elbow.

Dispensary conversions

Have you ever seen or heard the term “5-gram eighth” and wondered what it means? We just identified eighths as 3.5 grams so how can dispensaries rewrite the metric system and declare eighths to equal 5 grams? Just how much is a five-gram eighth?

Five-gram eighths describe the price point for the amount of cannabis. For instance, a customer who selects a 5-gram eighth will receive 5 grams of cannabis for the price of the strain’s eighth. Any “eighth” that’s more than 3.5 grams is basically describing bonus weed.

International conversions

How do people around the world weigh weed?

Every country except Burma, Liberia, and the United States uses the metric system. With different units of measurements around the globe, how do other countries weigh their weed if they’re on a different system? Most of the world has adopted the metric system. The decimal system of measurement is known as the International System of Units (SI). In short, cannabis is measured by grams no matter where you go. Beyond grams, cannabis weights outside the U.S. are typically referred to in kilograms, or 1,000 grams. One kilo, as it is often called, is 2.20462 pounds.

Order like a local

Grams may be the universal weed measurement, but what we call cannabis changes based on your location.

Countries all over the world use different slang terms to refer to marijuana. So, if you want to shop like a local, it’s best to talk like one, too. In North America, cannabis is referred to as weed, reefer, marijuana, Mary Jane and a host of other words, while other parts of the world like Australia use slang terms like “hooch” and “choof.” People in Jamaica say “dagga.” And while you’re doing some research on ordering like a local in your vacation destination, check up on the laws and regulations before you go.

What the hell just happened to your eight there buddy?

a nic is not a gram
nic=nickel=5=.5
how hard is that to comprehend
dime=1 gram
“dub” meaning 2, 2 grams
of coarse those are the standerds it’s up to your dealer to throw more in,becuase those don’t really denote actual weight.
after that it’s pretty simple.
eight=3.5
quarter=7
half=14
oz=28
not that difficult

My question is short and simple. A black digital scale weighing at 100 capacity and 0.1 increments and 1.2 for $5.00?

As well as 2.2 for $10.00. Is this considered enough NOW?

well i only read the first page of the thing.

some people saying nickel is a gram or .25 or .5.
Not to be a dick but ur all wrong.
depending on what weed you have a nickel, or dime could be different prices.

simple money question, how many cents is a nickel? 5 so a nickel bag is 5 dollars, 5 dollars worth of what ever weed you have.
how many cents is a dime? 10 so 10 dollars worth of whatever weed you have. If you sell an eith for 60, then a dime .35grams or 10 dollars

lol so im on crack now? smart ass, dont ya think if i was on crack. i damn sure wouldnt be on the computer.

pump your brakes sucka.

the quantity of weed is the quantity. regardless of price, quantity is quantity.

now, granted in different regions of the world that quantity may be more or less depending on what the market is like and where you are.

regardless. a fucking nickel bag is a blunt. a nickel bag of reefer is a blunt. a blunt is at least 1 gram. same thing goes for a dime. 2 nickel bags of reefer equal a dime bag of reefer. 1 + 1= what cult? 2 blunts RIGHTTTTTTTTTTTT

NOW there is no need for all of the bashing.

DUH. who doesnt know prices fluctuate from region to region. but to say im wrong because of the prices or whatever. get the fuck outta here.

you bring up 10 dollar bags are 1gram. yea right. that is like some good ass green prices. you cannot say gram equals this set amount. its different everywhere.

i know for a fact i can pick a bag of purp or whatever is on the street for 10 bucks and pick up a bag in texas for 10 bucks. which one you think has more weight? more bud?

ok loudblunts, first, what your saying is that if you were a dealer, and bought an ounce of some good weed for lets say 300, you would sell a gram at the same price you sold a gram of an ounce u bought last week for 50 dollars? You have to combine qualitly into the equation. When someone refers to nickel bag, thats refering to a price not a quantity. Maybe in your area where the collective IQ is 2 nickels and a dime. Where do you think nickel came from? It didnt come from a quantity that would make no sense. Nickel is 5, 5 dollar bag.

second, ”
i know for a fact i can pick a bag of purp or whatever is on the street for 10 bucks and pick up a bag in texas for 10 bucks. which one you think has more weight? more bud?”
your comparing 2 different catagories of places, instead of saying pick up a bag in FL and one in TX. And theres no way to answer the question of more wieght and more bud unless the person ur buying from got the same exact price and same exact bud from the same exact grower as the other. And the price depends on if that dealer selling you a bag thinks your from MIT or from where loudblunts lives.

prices may varied in different places but the weights are the same everywhere.

nickle = schwag
dime = .5g
dub = 1g
8th = 3.5g
4th = 7g
1/2 = 14g
1oz = 28g

dime = 1g and dub = 2g? common sense people, who would buy 8th wen i get two dubs = 4g $30-40, rather then an 8th = 3.5g $45-50

yeah you guys are sounding stupid. it breaks down like this.
Sometimes you ask for the weight and pay whatever..
Sometims you ask for the Price and get what ever the dealer feels is worth the amount of money you spend.
Some of you guys are so square it just blows my mind. I run into this ALL the time with people who are from the West
or the far north. You dont understand vanacular, slang, or esoteric terms very well.

A nickel bag.. is simply $5 WORTH of weed okay. not 5% of .5 or any of that stupid shit. the amount you get will depend on the quality and like the guy said earlier who-
got blasted b/c he was not speaking nerd talk, it normally means one blunt worth of substance. and he was RIGHT goof tropps. Typicall a nickel is $5 worth or ENOUGH
to make ONE blunt for $5.

A Dime is $10 dollars worth NOT .10 or 1/10 or anything like that. It is typicall however much i can get for $10 OR.. wait for it? wait. for it. 2 TWO blunts kids!

1 Dub ( and for all of you who are new to that term, you are the ignorant ones who dont know what you are talking about b/c a dub is THE single most common denomination ins ALL street level drug sales)
a Dub sack is ALWAYS $20 worth and the actual AMOUNT will vary alot depending on the quality of the weeed. i have seen Dubs of Dro( any superior hydroponic strain) be hardly enough to make a blunt and
people happily pay for it. What it ACTUALLY is in grams..who knows who fucking cares.

QUAD – a quad or quarter ounce is 1/4 of an ounce OR 7 grams. as you can see it depends on what you are asking for on whether it is dynamic or not. a Quad is ALWAYS a quarter of an ounce on the street. b/c you dont purchase
a quarter of a pound on the street b/c you dont CARRY it like that. get it?

tenth, teenager, little girl, refers to 1/16 of an ounce.

8th, aeffy, – you get the point its an 1/8 of an ounce.

there are many more terms i could talk about.. birds, halfs, bricks, zones(ounce also called o.z. , orange) but i wont get into it all. The point is that it is not pure math at all it is general reference
to quantity OR to the amount of money you want to spend b/c the market changes alot depending on if its a drought or not. do you nerds understand what a drought is?
