Food Plot 1B – Grandpa Ray’s Grains and Greens

Utilization based on game camera survey on this crop choice + evidence of use

Growth Results

This was my first attempt planting this variety and I was simply blown away. It emerged quickly and became so dense I thought I had planted it too heavy and it would be stunted. It kept growing denser and taller and the results were simply phenomenal.

Activity Results

The deer were in it right away but they largely ignored the brassicas and were after the Triticale and Oats. Usage of this plot was directly related to how cold it was. As soon as the temps plummeted we had hoards of deer coming for the brassicas. Even though this plot is quite small, because it grew so dense, we had greens all the way into February and this became our top draw during the winter. Great activity.

Comments

I’ve been planting Brassica plots for a while but this was one of the best result I’ve had, it was outstanding both in deer activity and in growth. It was amazing and I will definately use this again, perhaps for some of my larger plots.

Food Plot 4 – Grandpa Rays Frosty Delight

Utilization based on game camera survey on this crop choice + evidence of use

Growth Results

This mixture is a combination of several brassicas that were easy to plant, germinated well, and turned into a ridiculously lush plot within 5 weeks. It stayed green all the way into December.

Activity Results

Activity was remarkable on this plot. I had deer pouring into it – particularly after a couple of hard frosts. During the last week of the season in December, I hunted here more than any other plot because our top buck was hanging here in daylight. On the last day I took a mature doe over this field.

Comments

I really, really liked this combination planting from Grandpa Rays. Of all my late season winter (brassica/radish) plots, this was by far the top draw.
